Ortega started his career in the clothing industry at a young age, working as a delivery boy for a local shirtmaker. In 1963, he founded Confecciones Goa, a company that produced bathrobes. His big breakthrough came in 1975 when he opened the first Zara store in La Coruña, Galicia.
